In 2015, our fascination with coconut oil and its stability in the kitchen inspired us to introduce it to retail stores across Mexico. But we didn't stop there; we were determined to make coconut oil a staple, even in snack foods. When our innovative idea was met with skepticism, we decided to showcase its potential by transforming traditional Mexican churritos. We took out wheat from the traditional formulation to make it gluten free, we replaced vegetable with coconut oil and presented our 'Holichurros' at a trade show, hoping to convey our vision.
Despite initial rejections from Mexican retailers, a pivotal moment came when a colleague shared that a buyer from a small store had hailed our product as the standout of the show. That small store turned out to be Trader Joe's. Though we never met this buyer, his endorsement affirmed our belief in our concept.
Soon, Holichurros gained rapid acceptance at Walmart, becoming an instant hit. Since then, we've expanded our vision to reimagine traditional Mexican snacks with a healthy twist. Our commitment lies in preserving authentic flavors while using superior quality ingredients.
